Discover United Kingdom by car

Many people would like to discover by car the foreign country where they are living. Perhaps you are in the same situation here in London and looking for more information about the right way to get it.

What is an international driving licence and how can you get it?

An international driving permit (IDP) is a document delivered and recognised by many countries which allows the permit-holder to drive a vehicle in any country that he wants. The international driving licence is a translation of your own driving licence.

Obviously to be valid, this document must be accompanied by a valid license from the native country. Depending on the country, this licence is delivered for free and can be used between 1 year and 3 years.

If you want to get your own IDP, you can make your request in your home country or in the country where you are living.

If you are an inhabitant in United Kingdom, there are three ways to apply for an IDP:

  • Apply by post
  • Apply at selected Post Offices
  • Apply at AA port travel shops

Discovering different landscapes by car thanks to your IDP

The landscapes in United Kingdom are very rich and varied like the mountains in Scotland, the lowland fens in England or the hills in the Northern Ireland. The sea is also very important in UK and there are many famous beaches like this one of Bournemouth with its 7 miles of white sand.

Sightseeing using a car in the UK is an alternative way if you are looking for more flexibility during your journey. Pack your luggage and drive safely!
